An essential element of research is documentary analysis, that is the analysis of primary documents such as those held in the ACKU archive. In this one day workshop, participants will be introduced to a variety of documents and some the different ways they can be analysed, before putting this knowledge into practice on a number of examples.
The workshop will be in two parts. In part one students will learn about different documents, the meaning and function of documentary analysis, and some of the different methods of analysis.
In the second part, students will be given the opportunity to practice some of these methods on a selection of documents drawn from ACKU’s unique documents collected over the past five decades.
The instructor will speak in English, but will use slides in Dari, and provide hard copies in Dari and Pashto. The lecture will be illustrated with examples from original Afghan documents.
Participants are encouraged to ask questions throughout the lecture which will be interactive. The second part of the workshop will require participants to work in small groups to apply the techniques learnt to a range of different documents.
