ACKU has the largest collection of newspapers with over 300 titles and 45000 issues that spans more than a hundred years. The newspaper collection is one of the most valuable, used and extensive collection of ACKU. Another collection of the newspapers emphasize on the political history of Afghanistan in the past four decades that consists of daily and weekly in Dari/Farsi, Pashto and English languages covering the period of, Soviet occupation (1979-1989), the civil war of the early 1990s, the Taliban era (1996-2001) and post 2001 newspapers. The library systematically collects newspapers through subscription, donation, purchase and exchange. The digitized files are accessible through ACKU’s digital databases.
