The Afghan Media Resource Center (AMRC) donated a copy of its digital archive to the Afghanistan Center at Kabul University (ACKU) for the use of researchers, students, university professors, and documentary makers.
The Afghanistan Center at Kabul University (ACKU) and The Afghan Media Resource Center (AMRC), on Monday, July 25, 2022, by signing a cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which emphasized better preservation and sharing of these important historical and informational documents.
Referring to the activities of the Afghan Media Resource Center (AMRC), Mr. Sayed Daud, the head of the Afghan Media Resource Center (AMRC), said that this center started its work in Peshawar, Pakistan in 1986, when Afghanistan was occupied by the Soviet Union and there was no media coverage in Afghanistan and after the collapse of the communist government this center continued its activities from Kabul.
He gave more information about donated materials and said these documents included more than 56 different subjects such as human rights, education, health, agriculture, reconstruction, repairs, mines, opium, Jirga, free elections, violence against women, etc. He added the donated documents – including important historical materials about Afghanistan from 1986 to 2001.
In this ceremony, Afghanistan Center at Kabul University (ACKU) Team emphasized the importance of preserving and sharing research documents and thanked Mr. Sayed Dawood and the Afghan Media Resource Center (AMRC) for their generous cooperation.
After the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), a copy of the archive of the Afghan Media Resource Center (AMRC) was officially provided to the Afghanistan Center at Kabul University (ACKU).
This archive with three hundred hours of videos, One hundred and fifty thousand colors, black and white photos, One thousand two hundred slides, Two thousand hours of audio cassettes, and a rich collection of Afghan news and newspapers. Activities of Afghan immigrants in Pakistan, The important news from 34 provinces of the country, is considered one of the richest archives are valuable and vital for the research work of researchers, professors and students.
Afghanistan Center at Kabul University (ACKU) is the most pioneering institution in the field of collecting, supplying, and classification of Historical-research documents in the region. This center has succeeded to make the largest archive of Afghanistan’s history and research resources. ACKU has Collected more than 190,000 valuable documents of Afghanistan’s history into different formats such as books, magazines, newspapers, photos, maps, audio records, and, video records in national and international languages is part of the important achievements of this Center.
This center has created a platform for Afghanistan’s legal documents to facilitate access to Afghanistan laws and legal documents including Nizamnaamas and Osulnaamas that all Afghanistan Laws and Legal documents including Nizamnaamas and Osulnaamas are now cataloged and available through this platform. Also, by establishing more than 280 Small local libraries and publishing more than 450 books, this center has taken an important step in the promotion of reading culture and expansion of libraries. The Afghanistan Center at Kabul University (ACKU) is going to catalog, classify and digitize the donated documents and make them freely available through its online database as well.
